DURHAM – Gordon Sylvester Smith, age 87, of Durham, passed away Thursday, November 8, 2012 at home.
Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late John James and Elmira (Conrod) Smith.
He was a retired Field Officer with the Canada Pension Plan. He served in the Navy during the Second World War. He was a member of the Anglican Church and the Royal Canadian Legion Br. 34 New Glasgow.
He is survived by his wife June (Beatty); daughters: Beverly (Gordon) Sutherland; Jane (Sonny) Ryan; Susan (Tom) Fraser; son, Charles (Tracy); nine grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by two brothers and five sisters.
Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation by request. A graveside committal service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in Heatherdale Memorial Gardens with Padre Roger Earle officiating.
Family flowers only. Donations in his memory may be made to the Durham Presbyterian Church, Royal Canadian Legion Br. 34, WWII Veterans, Pictou County Food Bank or a charity of choice.
