John MacInnis

Lieu de naissance : Frenchvale
Date de naissance : 11 août 1924

Date de décès : 8 novembre 2012

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our loving husband, father and grandfather on Thursday, Nov. 8, 2012 surrounded by his family and Muriel, his loving wife of 60 years, at his home in Balls Creek.
John was born Aug. 11, 1924 in Frenchvale. Upon his return from serving overseas during World War II, he built lumber and trucking businesses that employed many and operated successfully for over 40 years. He also worked for over 40 years as a bus driver with Cape Breton County School Board and 16 years as a County Councillor.
He devoted his life to his family, always having a kind word and a smile for everyone. He worked hard all his life to provide a good life for those he loved and his love was not limited to his immediate family. All who came close to John benefited from his approach to life. His door was forever open for friends and family and he always made time to listen. His favorite past time was harness racing – he owned and trained many horses. He was a member of St. Mary’s Church; Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 126 Westmount, and; enjoyed many years with the Cape Breton Horsemen’s Association.
He is survived by his wife Muriel ‘MacInnis’ MacInnis; son Calvin and daughter-in-law Deanna; grandchildren Noah, Aidan and Devin; brothers Martin, Father Dan, Hughie, and Lauchie; sisters Margaret Campbell, Theresa Dowie and Rita MacDonald, and; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends who loved him dearly.
He is predeceased by his parents Angus and Margaret; brother Michael; sisters Mary Ann MacIsaac and Annie Deleskie, and; in-laws Hugh Campbell, Alex Dowie, Jerome Deleskie, Steve MacIsaac, Donald MacDonald, Christina MacInnis and Theresa MacInnis.
Visitation will be held Sunday, Nov. 11, 2012 at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be held 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 12, 2012 at St. Mary’s Church 1769 Frenchvale Road, with Fr. Paul Abbass officiating. Interment to follow in Calvin Cemetery, Upper Leitches’ Creek.
