It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our loving husband, father, and grandfather on Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012, at home, surrounded by his loving family.
Lawrence Ignatius was born on May 13, 1929, in Bridgeport, and was the son of the late Stephen and Veronica (Petrie) McPhee.
Lawrence was a devoted family man. He treasured time spent with his family and he dearly loved his grandchildren. He was a man of strong Christian faith and a member of Immaculate Conception Church since birth. His parents taught him a love for family, faith, animals, and gardening that was carried with him throughout his life.
Lawrence is survived by Mary (Sis MacIntyre), his loving wife of 53 years, and children, Lorna (Archie Gillis), Grand Mira, Andrea (Donnie Gillis), Grand Mira, Helen, at home, Steve (Lesa MacLean), Glace Bay, Carolyn (Alvin Oravecz), Grand Mira, Lois (Michael Tanchak), Glace Bay, and Vonnie (Chris Mac Neil), Glace Bay. Lawrence will be greatly missed by his grandchildren, Allan (Katie), Michael, Joseph, Martin, Caroline, Kaitlyn, Maria, Laura, Michaela, Hanna, Daniel, Lawrence, Nicole and Allister. Lawrence is also survived by his brother, Michael (Mickey), nephew, Ronnie McPhee and many other nieces and nephews.
Lawrence was predeceased by his sisters and brothers, Mary (MacIntyre), Theresa (Flavin), Charles W., Joe, and Billy.
Our dad appreciated the special care given to him by Helen and Nicole making it possible for him to spend his last days in the comfort of his home. Special thanks to Mickey for taking care of Pa’s pony, Mr. T., when his brother was no longer able to do so. Our family would also like to thank Dr. Kent Cadegan and Brenda MacDonald.
Visitation will take place Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2012, at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2012, at Immaculate Conception Church, Bridgeport, Glace Bay. Fr. Daniel Boudreau officiating. Interment to follow in the parish cemetery. All are welcome to join the family for a reception in the parish hall.
