MERIGOMISH – John Bernard “Jack” McGee, 71, Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow, formerly of Merigomish, passed away Monday, November 12, 2012 in the Manor, surrounded by his family.
Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late Francis Joseph and Margaret Louise (Reid) McGee.
He was a member of St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church, Thorburn. Prior to retirement in 2006, he had been employed as a maintenance electrician for 25 years with Northern Pulp, Abercrombie. A member of IBEW Local 625, Jack in earlier years, had worked on construction jobs across Canada. Jack was a proud member of the1958-‘59 East Pictou Rural High School Hockey Team that won the Provincial Hockey Championship in the spring of 1959. He enjoyed watching and attending hockey games, creating jewelry, wood carving, making children’s furniture and stockcar racing with his son, Craig. Jack married his sweetheart, Sandra on November 23, 1963 and together they raised four children, working together and enjoying each new adventure. Jack’s most important legacy is a life filled with devotion and love for his family.
Surviving are his wife, Sandra L. (Langille) McGee, Merigomish; daughters, Lynn (David) Greene, Blue Mountain; Kim (Luke) Swallow, MacLellan’s Brook; sons, Philip (Nancy) McGee, Barney’s River; Craig (Krista) McGee, Stellarton; grandchildren, Amberly, Luke “Bud” and Jessica Swallow; Ryan and Layne Greene; Daniel and Breanna McGee; Reed McGee; step-grandchildren, Logan and Cole Doiron; great-grandchildren, Jessa Swallow and Peter Swallow; sisters, Penny Gaudet, Merigomish; Sheila MacDonald, New Glasgow; Jean McGee, Antigonish; brothers, Pat (Marie) McGee, Toronto; Mike McGee, Sutherland’s River; Dennis (Gail) McGee, Stellarton; mother-in-law, Lois Anthony, Amherst; sisters-in-law, Marsha McGee, Edmonton; Frances (Murray) MacKenzie, Bramalea, Ont; brothers-in-law, Ronald (Patty) Langille, Toronto; Jackie Langille, Southampton; many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brother, Frank McGee; niece, Shelly McGee; nephew, Darren Gaudet; ; father-in-law, Edward “Ned” Langille; sisters-in-law, Peggy McGee and Janet Langille; brother-in-law, Bill MacDonald and Leonard Langille.
The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Thursday in St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church with Father Colin MacKinnon presiding. Interment will be in St. Andrew’s Cemetery, Egerton.
Family flowers only. Donations may be made in Jack’s memory to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia.
