Ruth Louise Goodyear, of Ingonish, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2012, at the Highland Manor Nursing Home, Neils Harbour.
Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of Josie Matheson and the late Donald ‘Chick’ Matheson.
Ruth was employed as a registered nurse in the Coronary Care Unit at the City Hospital, Sydney, before moving to Ingonish and working in geriatrics at the Highland Manor Nursing Home, Neils Harbour. She was a life member of the United Church Women, Ingonish, and a founding member of Heartbeats in Sydney.
Besides her mother, Ruth is survived by her husband, Hedley ‘Ted’ Goodyear; sisters, Elaine (David) Sherwood, Halifax, and Nancy (Bob) Inglis, Westmount; brothers, Stewart (Phyllis) and Allan, Sydney; sister-in-law, Ann Harvie, Oakville, Ont.; nieces and nephews, Karen Harvie, Erin and Jocelyn Matheson, Alison and Glenn Barrington, Mark and Joel Inglis.
Ruth was predeceased by her brother-in-law, Tim Harvie.
There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held at St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church on Saturday, Nov. 17 at 12 p.m., with Rev. Margie Wood officiating, assisted by Rev. Thomas Whent. Interment will be held in Ingonish at a later date. Following the service, a reception will be held at the Ingonish Fire Hall.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Highland Manor Nursing Home, Neils Harbour.
