Passed peacefully away surrounded by her loving family after a brief battle with cancer on November 14, 2012, at the age of 80. Predeceased by her parents Walter and Maude Squires and sisters Myrtle Ryan and Marina Squires. Left with fond and loving memories: Jonas, her husband of 60 years; daughters: Rosalind Carter (Joseph) and Brenda Newhook (Derek Yetman); grandchildren: Christa Newhook (Derrick Oldford), Robyn Young (Cecil), Angela Carter and Andrew Carter; her three precious great-grandchildren: Audrey, Wyatt and Gregory, as well as brothers: Tasker Squires (Gloria) and Wilson Squires (Barbara). Also a large number of friends and relatives, including her church family at West End Baptist Church. Missed by her canine friend Buster. Shirley loved life and fun times, including dressing as the Halloween witch and other seasonal characters as she gave treats to walkers at Quidi Vidi Lake. Resting at Carnell’s Funeral Home, Freshwater Road, on Friday, November 16, at 7-9 p.m., and Saturday, November 17, at 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Memorial service to be held at West End Baptist Church, Topsail Road, on Sunday, November 18, at 2 p.m. Cremation to follow.
