Effie Edith MacPhee of Alexandra Street, Sydney, passed away peacefully at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, on Nov. 14, 2012, surrounded by her family.
Born in Sterling Mines, Richmond County, N.S., she was the daughter of the late Michael and Lyra (Nichols) Doyle.
She was a member of St. Theresa's parish, Sydney.
Effie worked for many years in nursing care at several local hospitals and more recently at New Dawn. She also provided care for the elderly in her own home. Effie was a person who placed other people's needs above her own.
She is survived by sons, Bernie (Claire), Halifax, Basil (Nicole), Sydney; grandsons, Brian, Derek (Jennifer), Daniel (Cody), all of Halifax, Justin and Tyler Irons, Sydney; great-grandsons, Gage, Cameron, Caleb, Braydon; one great-granddaughter, Trinity; special niece, Billy Joe and by numerous other nieces and nephews. She is also survived by sisters, Molly (Bob) Turpin, Oshawa, Ont., Vera Lightsey, Florida, Minetta Gratton, Hammond, Ont., Wanda, N.S.; brother, Michael (Betty), Campbelldale Road; and also by former daughters-in-law, Karen and Ann.
Effie was predeceased by husband, Wilfred MacPhee, sister, Elaine, brothers, Gerald, Basil and George.
A small gathering will be held prior to the service in T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel on Saturday, Nov. 17, beginning at 1 p.m. with the service held at 3 p.m. in the chapel with Rev. Jim Oliver officiating.
Donations may be made to the C.B. Palliative Care Society or charity of choice.
