It is with sad and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Lovett Edwin Everett, 82, of Sydney. Lovett lost his battle with cancer on Sunday, Nov. 18, 2012, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
He was born to the late Horace and Gladys Everett on Aug. 6, 1930, in Bridgetown, N.S.
Lovett made his living as a painter, crack filler and vinyl hanger. His work is prominent in many establishments throughout Sydney. He was a great lover of the written word and could always be found sitting, reading a book chosen from his private home library. Other than books, his favourite pastime was stamp collecting which gave him many hours of enjoyment over the years. He loved to play tarabish, cribbage and various other parlor games. On cold winter nights during a power failure he often played Battleship with his children by oil lamp.
Lovett is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Elizabeth (Betty); his six children, Lynn (Richard) McNamara, Riverview, N.B., Debby Everett, Sydney, Kevin (Anne) Everett, Sydney River, Jill (Bill) Hickey, East Bay, Dale Everett, Sydney, and Robin (Kathie) Everett, Edmonton, Alta. He is also survived by his older sister, Viola Stevens who resides at Harbourstone Enhanced Care, Sydney River.
He was predeceased by his brother, Deblois, Bridgetown, N.S.
Papa, will be dearly missed by his 13 grandchildren, Logann, Liam, Kaleen, Adam, Melissa, Lori, Kimberly, Zachary, Justine, Brayden, Drake, Keegan and Jadyn. He also leaves behind seven great-grandchildren and special friends, Frank and Laurel Buckingham and Dannie Hanson.
His family would like to thank Dr. Estelle Cameron, Dr. Susan Rawal and the staff and doctors of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital and Palliative Care.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held Tuesday, Nov. 20 at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney, from 7-9 p.m. A memorial service will take place 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 21 in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Sheldon Chant officiating. Reception to follow. Interment to take place in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be to the Cape Breton Palliative Care Unit.
