It is with great sadness, we announce the passing of our devoted mother, Rhoda Jean (Grant) Brufatto of Glace Bay, on Nov. 23, 2012, at the Glace Bay Hospital with her daughters by her side.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Everett and Lena (Buchanan) Grant.
Rhoda is survived by her daughters, Joleen (James (Jim) Orr of Halifax and Kara (James Simon) of Victoria, B.C.; her loving grandchildren, Daniel and Brenna and great-granddaughter, Haley.
She was predeceased by her husband of 42 years, Cecil Brufatto, her sister, Martha and brothers, Everett and Billy.
She will be sadly missed by her sisters, Bernice (the late Angus) Stewart and Mary Ellen (Al) Chant; her brothers-in-law, Vincent (Joan) Brufatto and Eric Brufatto; sisters-in-law, Philomena ‘Sis’ (Russell) McNeil, Evelyn (Jack) Dean, Sylvia (Doug) Tredwell and Berna Brufatto; many nieces and nephews.
Rhoda was a highly respected teacher for many years in Glace Bay, Reserve Mines and Grand Falls, Newfoundland. Rhoda took great pride in canvassing for the Canadian Cancer Society for many years as well as taking a leading role in neighbourhood watch. Special thanks to the staff at OPD of the Glace Bay Hospital and especially Dr. David Ley.
Visitation will be today (Monday, Nov. 26) from 7-9 p.m. in Curry’s Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay. A celebration of Rhoda’s life will be held Tuesday, Nov. 27 at 2 p.m. in Knox United Church, Commercial Street, Glace Bay. Interment will be at St. Anthony’s Cemetery at her husband’s side.
A reception will follow in the church hall.
