SURETTE, Bernard Andrew – 81, of Yarmouth, passed away with his family by his side on November 26, 2012, at Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born July 13, 1931 in Pinkney’s Point, he was the son of the late Andrew and Evnie (Clairmont) Surette. Bernard was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who loved his family dearly. He loved his son-in-laws and daughter-in-laws as his own. He was a member of St. Ambrose Cathedral. Bernard started his young life as a fisherman and worked many jobs at C.J. O’Hanley’s as a small motor mechanic, R.H. Pothier’s as a fabricator, manager at the Yarmouth Arena and a boat builder. He had a great love for the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. In his later years, he enjoyed gardening and his greenhouse. He is survived by loving wife of 58 years, Eleanor (Clements) Surette, Yarmouth; daughters, Stephanie (John) Boudreau, Chegoggin; Shirley (Brian) Muise, Sluice Point; Sheila Surette (Mike Dulong), Yarmouth; sons, Andrew (Marie), North Chegoggin; Leslie, Yarmouth; sisters, Barbara (Joe) Cottreau, Wedgeport; Lucy (Raymond) Vacon, Villa St. Joseph du-Lac; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by sisters, Rosie, Ivy, Bella, Bernice, Lillian, Beatrice, and Leah. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home & Crematorium, Yarmouth. Visitation was held in Sweeny’s Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, November 28 from 7-9 p.m.; Father John MacPherson officiated prayers at 8 p.m. Funeral service was held on Thursday, November 29 at 1 p.m. from St. Ambrose Cathedral, Deacon Stephen Bourque officiated. Interment followed in Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery. Flowers welcomed. Donations in Bernard’s memory may be made to the CNIB, Kidney Foundation of Canada (Nova Scotia Branch) or the Victorian Order of Nurses (Tri-County Branch).
