Arthur Thomas Smith

Lieu de naissance : Lakeville, Nouvelle Ecosse, Canada
Date de naissance : 21 mars 1944

Date de décès : 27 novembre 2012

Arthur Thomas Smith - 68, of Habitant, Kings County, passed away peacefully surrounded by love, following a courageous battle with cancer, on Tuesday, November 27, 2012 at the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Lakeville, Kings County on March 21, 1944, he was the son of the late Arthur Thomas Sr. and Bernice “Ruth” (Benjamin) Smith. At the early age of 16 he left home to work out West in the wheat fields. Upon returning home to Nova Scotia he was employed by Canard Poultry where he left to attend Kingstec, receiving a trade in plumbing and pipe fitting. Through this hard work it enabled him to purchase a mixed farm in Kingsport which later concentrated in pork production. Art or Tom (depending on where he was known from) married the love of his life in 1967. While still operating the farm he worked throughout the province with Apex Plumbing and Heating. After selling the farm in 1978 he continued his plumbing trade with the start of Habitant Contractors and later A&S Plumbing and Heating with a retail location in Canning. These life experiences afforded him the opportunity to meet countless friends which he never turned his back on in any time of need. His mission in life was to help, and that he did; selflessly. His immediate family and grandchildren held a very special part in his life. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, the former Shirley Ann Kinsman, formerly of Sheffield Mills; son, Kevin, Sheffield Mills; daughter, Heather (Darren Anderson), Waterville; grandchildren, Katherine and Cameron. He is also survived by his brothers, R. Blake, New Minas and Ray Clark (Larissa Crawford), Ontario; sisters, Bertha Maud, Ontario and Doris Ann (Harry Schofield), New Minas. Besides his parents he was predeceased by brother, E. Wayne Smith. Visitation was held from 6-8 p.m. Friday, November 30, 2012 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where the funeral service, followed by a reception, was held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 1, 2012, Reverend Donald Rafuse officiating. Burial took place in the Hillaton Cemetery, Kings County. Family flowers only, by request. Donations in memory may be made in his honour to the Valley Regional Hospital Palliative Care Fund. He and his family wanted to say a big thank you to all of the doctors and nurses that we dealt with during this time. Their professionalism and passion is evident in what they do and it was comforting to know he was in great hands. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville. On-line inquiries may be directed to www.whitefamilyfuneralhome.com.
