Alicia O'Connell

Alicia O’Connell, age 32 of Warren Avenue, New Waterford and a long time resident of Gardiner Mines, passed away suddenly on Thursday, November 29th, 2012 at her residence.
Alicia was the only daughter of Danny and Gail (Mackie) O’Connell.
Alicia was an honour student at C.B.U., graduating in 2006 with a B.A. Degree, major in psychology. She was employed with Community Services in Sydney. At one time she worked for community housing and Habitant for Humanity. Alicia was very community minded and did fundraising for the Schizophrenia Society.
Alicia loved swimming; especially on Ingonish Beach. She also enjoyed camping and hiking; but mostly, she will be remembered as a very compassionate young lady with an outgoing personality.
Besides her parents, Alicia is survived by the love of her life, her daughter, Emma Jean; her best friend and brother, Kyle (Michelle), Glace Bay; her boyfriend, Bandar Alamash and many uncles, aunts and cousins.
She was predeceased by her grandparents, Thomas and Bertha Mackie and William and Beatrice O’Connell.
Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. The funeral mass, officiated by Rev. Daniel Boudreau is Monday at 2 p.m. in St. Eugene's Church followed by interment in St. James Cemetery, Gardiner Mines. All are invited to the church hall for a reception.
As an expression of sympathy for Alicia, memorial donations in her memory may be made to a charity of one's choice.
