Bertha Marion Rogers (Tracey), of the Windsor Elms, Falmouth, formerly of Lockhartville, Kings Co., passed away at the age of 94 on Tuesday, November 27, 2012. Born in Lockhartville, on October 12, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Edward “Elisha” Tracey and Osa (Davidson). She is survived by her son, Bazil Rogers of Hantsport; daughters, Lorna (Bradford) Cosman, Eastern Passage; Darlene Rogers (Rick Velhat), Calgary, Alta.; grandchildren, Carol (Rogers) MacNeil, Seabright; and Steven Rogers, Nanaimo, BC; great-grandchildren, Lydia MacNeil, Jacob and Melissa Rogers. She was predeceased by her husband, Manford; her son, John; her daughter-in-law, Monique. Bertha was the last surviving member of her family, being predeceased by seven sisters and four brothers: Evelyn Schofield, Bessie Schofield, Leora Vaughan, Jessie Schofield, Minnie Schofield, Mary Schofield, Hilda Keddy, Leroy, Arden and Aubrey; and also Robert in infancy. Bertha took great pride in homemaking and was an excellent baker, quilt-maker and did lovely embroidery. She was very involved in the local community and the Lockhartville United Baptist Church. She was a member of the Lockhartville Sewing Circle, the Thimble Six Quilters, the Women’s Institute and the Minas Waves Seniors Group, with whom she travelled and participated in many events. She visited several areas, including Nashville, Costa Rica, Illinois, Magdalen Islands, Labrador, and many places in Western Canada. The family thanks the wonderful staff at the Windsor Elms for their compassionate care over the last several years, along with the chaplaincy, Debra Mosher, and the Rev. Gail Whalen-Dunn of the Stoney Hill United Baptist Church, Lockhartville. Special thanks go to Minnie and Janet, caregivers from WeCARE services. Visitation was 6-9 p.m. Friday, November 30, in Lindsay’s Windsor Funeral Home, 194 King Street, Windsor. Funeral service was 2 p.m. Saturday, December 1, 2012, in the Stoney Hill United Baptist Church, Lockhartville, with the Rev. Gail Whalen-Dunn and Rev. Debra Mosher officiating. Interment was in the Riverbank Cemetery, Hantsport. Donations in Bertha’s memory were requested to be to the Stoney Hill United Baptist Church, (19 Old Oak Island Road, R.R.3 Wolfville, NS B4P 2R3), or the Windsor Elms Village Chaplaincy Fund (174 Dyke Road, Falmouth, NS B0P 1L0).
