Alan Harroun

1939 - 2012
Alan Daniel "Al" Harroun, 72, of Springhill passed away on Saturday, December 1, 2012 at All Saints Springhill Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Springhill, he was the eldest son of Hazel S. (Hunter) Harroun and the late Daniel W. Harroun.
Al was a member of St. Andrew's Wesley United Church, Springhill. He was a long time member of the Board of Directors for the Perpetual Care Committee at the Leamington Cemetery.
His working career included time in the Springhill Mines as a younger man until their closure and then as a Corrections Officer with Correctional Services of Canada for over thirty-one years. Upon retirement he returned to work with the Corps of Commissionaires.
Al was very much an outdoorsman. He had a beautiful camp in Cannan that was his pride and joy. He enjoyed hunting and trapping. He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with his nieces and nephews as well as his many friends. No matter the occasion, Al always had a story to tell and was happy to share it.
He will be sadly missed by his two sons, Daniel and Stuart, both of Springhill; his mother, Hazel (nee Hunter) of Springhill; two brothers, Frank "Nick" (Eleanor) of Springhill, and Barry "Mac" (Kathy) of Springhill; as well as several nieces and nephews and a large extended family.
Besides his father, Al was predeceased by a brother Archie and an infant sister.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of A. H. Brown Funeral Home, 5 McFarlane Street, Springhill, (902-597-2361). Visitation will be held from the funeral home on Monday, December 3, 2012 from 6-8 pm and on Tuesday from 1 pm until the time of the funeral at 2 pm. Burial will be in the Leamington Cemetery. Rev. Wayne McCarthur officiating.
Donations in memory of Al may be made to the Leamington Cemetery or the Canadian Cancer Society.
