Matilda passed away peacefully on Monday, Dec. 3, 2012 in Waterville, Nova Scotia.
Born in Inverness, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Matilda (Gillis) Getto.
Matilda resided in Montreal, returning to Nova Scotia in 2001.
She is survived by her son, Lloyd and grandson, Olivier, Quebec; sisters, Sarah Wellner, Fredericton, Sylvia Medjuck, Hermine Getto; brother, Carl (Agatha), all in New Waterford; sister-in-law, Rollande Racine, Montreal and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Lucien; grandson, Sean; sisters, Rose Habicht, Leonie Hadley, Margaret Thurbide, Catherine Marchesin and Georgina MacDonald.
We wish to express our sincere thanks to the Maple Hill Manor, New Waterford and the Kings Regional Rehabilitation Centre in Waterville, N.S., for their excellent care to Matilda over the years.
As per Matilda’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral mass. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. A private burial will be held in Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Deacon Leo Penny officiating. All are invited to join the family for a reception on Monday morning, starting at 10:30 a.m. in St. Leonard’s Hall on Convent Street.
As an expression of sympathy for Matilda, memorial donations in her memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
