Sadly, we announce Mits Kanayama's passing on December 11, 2012. He was born in Japan, January 1, 1936 and emigrated to Canada with his parents a year later.

Mits is survived by his partner Mary Dmytriw, sister Sach, step-brother Aki (Betty) Sugihara and foster sister Mary Jane (Fred) Engstrom and their families.

He was predeceased by his parents, sister Alice and step-mother.

Mits' working years were primarily in forestry and sales. Sports and leisure activities reflected his love of the outdoors, his desire for perfection and his joy in keeping active; starting each day with energy and enthusiasm.

Although he golfed and played tennis, skiing was his passion in winter and fishing in summer while skillfully tying flies year round. He always carried the latest photography equipment; recording hours of scenery, sports, wildlife, travels and fun with family and friends.

As Mits' health deteriorated, he patiently dealt with the loss of activities he loved and did so with determination, stoicism and acceptance.

There will be no service at his request.

Flowers are declined in favor of charitable donations.

Think of kind, generous Mits and his joy for life by recalling the shared good times, as you cast a fly line or carve some turns down a favorite run at Sun Peaks.

He may be gone but
his spirit remains.
