1978-2012
Norleen DeMaer, a.k.a “Mini Goof”, was born on March 1st, 1978, the third daughter of five girls to Rick and Linda McLeod. She was born in Regina General Hospital, a premature baby by two months. Norleen spent one month in neo-natal care. Norleen passed away on December 19th, 2012 at Kamloops Hospice at the age of 34, after a two year battle with breast cancer. She was surrounded by her family and loved ones. She fought long and hard, right to the very end.
Norleen attended Maryfield School from 1984 – 1988, then the family moved from Maryfield to Norquay, Sask. the summer of 1988. Norleen attended Norquay School from 1988 – 94, returning to Maryfield School for 94-95.
Norleen moved to Yorkton, SK in 1996. She met Jason DeMaere in 1999. They moved from Yorkton to Brandon in July of 2002 and were married in August 2002.Hannah Ruth DeMaere was born October 30, 2002. Justin Jack DeMaere was born October 15, 2005.
From Brandon, Manitoba the family moved to Kamloops, B.C. in May 2009.
Norleen is survived by her husband Jason, her two children Hannah and Justin, her father Richard (Shirley) McLeod, her four sisters, Kerri (John), Amy (Alex), Stacie and Elaina, her niece Laura Anaka , nephew Ayden Miller and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. She was predeceased by her mom, Linda Ruth McLeod.
She enjoyed her work at the Yorkton Radio Station GX94 as advertising writer and working at Greyhound as a ticket clerk, working with her husband Jason. Most of all, Norleen loved being a mom. She bragged about Hannah and Justin all the time, she was so proud of them. She loved being a wife to Jason. Norleen was the biggest cheerleader as family was number one priority to her. She will be greatly missed by her family. Norleen greeted with a hug and said her good-bye with a hug.
A service to celebrate her life will be held in the Schoening Funeral Chapel on Saturday, December 29th at 2:00 p.m.
A second service will be held in her honour on Wednesday, January 2nd, 2013 in the Tabernacle Church, Maryfield, SK.
Should friends desire, donations to the Canadian Mental Health Association would be appreciated in Norleen’s memory.
