Mary 'Eileen' (Monaghan) Viva

It is with heavy hearts that we, the family announce the peaceful passing of Eileen Viva surrounded by her loving family. She was called to eternal rest to be reunited with her husband and soul mate Umberto and daughter Anna Lee in Heaven.
We have lost someone so dear to us, that it is hard to imagine our lives without her presence. They say that “with great love comes great pain”, Eileen will be remembered for her great sense of humour and as a loving and caring friend, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother.
She loved family and tradition and she was the foundation of all family gatherings throughout the years. In addition to raising a large loving family, Eileen enjoyed many past times like painting ceramics, bowling, playing cards, darts, bingo, dancing, and gardening. She also loved to travel including three trips across Canada and spent many days exploring the back roads of Cape Breton with Umberto. Eileen was a member of St. Pius X parish in Sydney Mines.
Born in Sydney Mines, she was the daughter of the late William and Sarah Jane (Winstanley) Monaghan.
Eileen will be sadly missed by her children, Billy, Ladysmith, B.C., Lola (James) Tobin, Sydney Mines, James (Kathy), Sydney Mines, Maria (Leo) Blackie, Sydney Mines, Michael (Carolyn), Scotchtown, Medina (Gerald) Marks, Sydney Mines, Owen (Darlene), Florence, Avery (Brenda), Sydney Mines, Patrick (Alana), Sydney Mines; and son-in-law, Harvey LeBlanc. Also, surviving are her 20 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren whom she loved dearly.
Also mourning her loss is her only sister, Nora (Frank) Young, Chateauguay, Que.; several sisters-in-law, a brother-in-law and several nieces and nephews.
Eileen was predeceased by her husband, Umberto, daughter, Anna Lee LeBlanc, brothers, William and Patrick, and niece, Sandra Young and numerous sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.
Cremation has taken place and at Eileen’s request there will be no visitation.
Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of J.M. Jobes funeral home, Sydney Mines.
A funeral mass of Christian burial will be held Friday, Dec. 28, 2012, at 1 p.m. at St. Pius X Church with Fr. Thomas John officiating. A reception will follow at St. Pius X Parish Hall.
Family flowers only. Donations in Eileen’s memory may be made to the Northside Community Guest Home, St. Joseph’s Cemetery Fund, Alzheimers Society or a charity of one’s choice.
