SHIRLEY TOWN

SHIRLEY TOWN SHIRLEY TOWN

Date de naissance : 11 octobre 1923

Date de décès : 30 décembre 2012

Shirley Frances Town, born October 11, 1923 in Shanghai, China, passed away peacefully at Overlander Extended Care on December 30, 2012.

She was predeceased by her parents William and Frances Owen, her loving husband Jack, daughter Dee, son Jeffrey, twin infant daughters, brother Billy and granddaughter Kara.

Mom leaves to cherish her memory sons John, Jerry (Barb) and Jess, daughter Andrea (Cliff Brauner), grandchildren Chris Town, Matt Town, Lisa (Brian) Klohn, Jesse (Amy) Brauner and Cherie Brauner. Also sisters Nel (John) Campbell, Los Angeles, Ca. and Gwen (Ivan) Robertshaw, Shelton, Wa.

Shirley was born in the British Republic of Shanghai, she moved to Canada with her parents and older brother Billy. Her parents blessed her with two younger sisters who she cared for as if they were her own. Shirl was raised a Burnaby girl where she met the love of her life, John Andrew Town, over the back fence. The city girl and the prairie/navy boy married May 3, 1947. Jack's career with TransMountain Pipeline took them to Edson, Comox, Kamloops and Yarrow. During this time Mom raised her children with a strong hand and a kind heart.

After Jack passed in 1973, Mom stayed on their dream hobby farm, returning to bookkeeping to support the remaining children and a menagerie of animals on the "Funny Farm". She then won the contract as the rural mail carrier in Yarrow where she stayed till retirement, truly making sure the mail was delivered in all weather conditions even if the occasional tractor assisted along the way! Mom returned to Kamloops in 1992 to be closer to her family and purchased her home on Happyvale. Here she was found gardening and walking with her loyal companion Dolly at her side.

Shirl loved life whether it be a mother to all, riding a camel in Egypt, sledding in Smithers, having Blueberry wine in Newfoundland, Fishing at Quadra, or a weekend hockey tournament to Alberta. Her family and friendships are treasures that she kept dear, she was a nurturer who was always true to the heart. We have been blessed with a wonderful mother, mentor and companion who enriched our lives in so many ways. She remains in our lives and hearts but has now returned home.

The entire Town family would like to extend our sincere thanks to all the staff at Overlander Extended Care for the love and care they gave to Mom over the past 7 years.

At Mom's request there will be no formal service.
