Glenn Cooper

October 23, 1945 – January 9, 2013
Glenn Alan Cooper, 67, of Pictou, Nova Scotia, died suddenly on January 9, 2013.
Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, he was a son of the late John ‘Jack’ and the late Helen (Campbell) Cooper.
Dearly beloved and survived by his wife of 30 years, Iona MacLean; and his sons, John Cooper (Angela Norton) of Sarnia, Ontario; and David (Amanda) Cooper of Toronto, Ontario; grandson, Finnegan and granddaughter, Ruby. Also survived by his sister, Rachel Cooper of Delhaven, Nova Scotia; his brother, David Cooper of Toronto; and his uncle, Glenn Cooper of Vancouver Island. Loved and remembered by many cousins, friends and colleagues. Glenn spent seven years as a radio broadcaster, notably at CJOB in Winnipeg and CKPT in Peterborough, Ontario. Discerning a call to ministry, he was graduated from Trent University in Peterborough with his B.A. and from Knox College, the Toronto School of Theology, with his M.Div. He was ordained to the ministry of Word and Sacrament on May 10, 1976.
He served for 16 years in Point Edward and Brigden Presbyterian Churches, southern Ontario, followed by six years as Associate Secretary for Resource Production and Communication at the national office of The Presbyterian Church in Canada, working from Toronto and Pictou, an early tele-commuter. He returned to parish life in 1998 as minister of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Westville, Nova Scotia, retiring from there in 2008. Glenn combined his love of radio and church music as host of "The Hymnbook" broadcast on several radio stations. The highlight of his musical life was singing bass with The PresbySingers, a chamber choral group in Pictou County. Glenn had an inquiring mind, a deep trust in God, a love of Scripture and leading worship, a compassionate heart, a passion for social justice and the well-being of the planet, a delight in music, and an infectious sense of humour.
Visitation will be held at McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou on Sunday, January 13, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Monday, January 14 at 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church, Prince St., Pictou.
Family flowers only. If desired, donations in Glenn's memory may be made to Presbyterian World Service and Development, 50 Wynford Dr., Toronto, ON, M3C 1J7 or to the First Presbyterian Church Living Legacy Fund, Pictou, NS.
