It is with profound sadness that the family of Fern Lila Pitman, age 76, of Amherst announce her passing on Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, Upper Nappan, NS.
Born in Fenwick, she was a daughter of the late Archie B. and Carrie (Smith) Ripley.
Fern worked at the Family and Children’s Services in Amherst for many years retiring in 1993. She was an avid gardener having many plant sales in the spring of the year.
In her younger years Fern enjoyed playing badminton and in her later years she loved playing cards with her friends.
She will be sadly missed by her husband Arnold of 56 years, one son Ben (Tracy) of Amherst, two grandsons Logan and Morgan of Halifax, sisters Isabel (Sheldon) Moore of Leicester and Evalena Graves of Sussex, NB and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Fern was predeceased by a son Mark, sisters Marion Hopkins, Doris Griffiths, Rachel McEachern, and brothers Robert, Vaughn and Glen.
Visitation will be held on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in Campbell’s Funeral Home, Amherst.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 12, 2013 at 11 a.m. in Campbell’s Chapel with Rev. Susan Estabrooks officiating.
Interment will take place in the spring in the Amherst Cemetery.
