EICHORST - Harry Theodore, age 91, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 5, 2013, at the Swift Current Care Centre with his family at his side. Harry was born on March 19, 1921, in the Prairie View District in the R.M. of Excelsior, to Edward and Christina Eichorst, and was the youngest of four children. He was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith at Peace Lutheran Church. He served in the church his whole life in various capacities including church councillor, choir director, and as a member of Mt Calvary's gospel band. His faith was abiding and the love for his family unconditional. We all knew nightly devotions included prayers for each member of the family. Harry loved music. At the age of seven he discovered the violin and taught himself to play. Over the years he be came an accomplished musician. He was also blessed with a beautiful tenor voice. He acquired his formal education at Salt Lake School in the Prairie View District. Due to the poor health of his father, Harry took over the farm in 1939. Although he was called to military service, he was granted exemption due to the fact he was the only son to carry on the farming operation. In 1945, he married Eleanor Mantie, the love of his life. He adored her and on January 28th they would have celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary. Together they built a successful mixed farming operation and retired to Swift Current in 1981. Harry enjoyed farming and continued to be involved into his 80s. He also enjoyed fishing, camping, playing cards, and following the Toronto Blue Jays. His greatest joy in later life was his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He eagerly awaited their visits and treasured every moment with them. Harry was predeceased by his parents, Edward and Christina Eichorst; his three sisters, Nora (John) Sauder, Gundy (Phillip) Pelzer, and Ethel (Victor) Schmiess; his mother and father-in-law, Daniel and Wilhelmina Mantie; brothers and sisters-in-law, Albert Mantie, Arthur (Ann) Mantie, Harold (Ann) Mantie, Elsie (Neil) Moore, and Alice Mantie in infancy. He leaves to mourn his loving wife, Eleanor; his son, Murray (Verna) Eichorst, Redcliff, AB, and their children, Tenille (Sheldon) Camphaug, Medicine Hat, AB, and Christopher Eichorst, Saskatoon, SK; his daughter, Charlaine (Don) Avis, Cabri, SK, and their children, Shereice (Chris) Harker (Liam and Addison), Warman, SK, Kyla (Shea) Ferster, Saskatoon, SK, and Kendall (Mike) Wicks (Ben), Cabri, SK; his daughter, Jennette (Gordon) Lang, Swift Current, SK, and their children, Cody Lang, Saskatoon, SK, and Landon Lang, Swift Current, SK; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Harvey (Rose) Mantie, Swift Current, SK, Gordon (Ann) Mantie, Stoney Plain, AB, Rose Mantie, Swift Current, SK; and numerous nieces and nephews. The Funeral Service was held on Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at 2:00 pm from the Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, Swift Current, SK with Pastor Brad Julien officiating. The organist for the service was Arlie Neufeld with a violin solo brought by Todd Schultz playing “Great Is Thy Faithfulness”. The tribute was shared by Kendall Wicks. The ushers in the church were nephews, Harvey Sauder and Don Sauder. The Honorary pallbearers were “All the Staff of the Swift Current Care Centre, who lovingly cared for Dad”. The Interment Service was held at the Peace Lutheran Cemetery, Prairie View, SK with the following grandsons serving as pallbearers, Christopher Eichorst, Cody Lang, Landon Lang, Michael Wicks, Christopher Harker, Shea Ferster and Sheldon Camphaug. In memory of Harry Eichorst, donations made to the Swift Current Care Centre Auxiliary or to the Mount Calvary Memorial Fund would be appreciated by the family.
