RICHARD ALLEN McDONALD

RICHARD ALLEN McDONALD

Date de décès : 9 janvier 2013

It is with extreme sadness that the family of Richard (Dick) announces his sudden passing on January 9th, 2013 in Valemount at the age of 61.

Dick was a proud, independent resourceful man and a loving father.

Richard was born in Carrot River, Saskatchewan, the third of four children. The family lived in a small farming community which provided a great deal of freedom and a chance to pursue many outdoor activities, which Dick remained fond of throughout his life.

Upon leaving school Dick moved to Kamloops and soon began work with Tolko Industries, continuing to be employed with the company until his recent retirement. He was a hard worker and his dedication to his job was consistent throughout his 40 years.

Dick formed many long term friendships through his work, sports activities and love of the outdoors. He was an avid and skilled fisherman and hunter. He enjoyed camping and boating with his family. More than anything Dick loved to visit with his friends and neighbours and was always willing to lend a hand. A favorite activity while his girls were still at home was to create a haunted house each year with his buddy Mario. Planning, building, and starring in the production were always a great deal of fun.

Dick was very proud of his daughters and their accomplishments and was always willing to "lend a hand" in their sporting activities.

Most of Dick's family remained in Saskatchewan and his visits home were very important to him. He kept in regular contact with his mom, siblings, nieces and nephews. In recent years he had developed friendships in the community of Valemount and this made it possible for Dick to get back to an early love of horses. He had been riding again in recent years and went on a number of cattle drives.

Dick is survived by his three daughters Erin, Heather (Tyler), Megan (Trent) and their mother Donna, his mom Margaret, brothers Barry (Shirley), Dale (Verna), sister Joan Schneider (Rick), aunts Phyllis and Dorothy, uncle Richard and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Dick was predeceased by his father Norman whom he greatly admired and respected.

The family wishes to thank the Ambulance personnel and staff at the Valemount medical centre for their efforts on Dick's behalf.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Mt. Paul United Church, 140 Laburnum Street on Monday, January 21st, 2013 at 11:00 a.m.
