Madonna (nee McCue) Hynes

Date de décès : 16 janvier 2013

August 23, 1924 - January 16, 2013
On January 16, 2013, she slipped peacefully and quietly away when we weren’t looking - our dear Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Madonna Hynes (nee McCue), in her 88th year. Formerly of St. Ann’s, Placentia Bay, she married and raised her children in the small out port community of Presque, Placentia Bay, until relocating to the town of Placentia during the resettlement program in 1967. Predeceased by her parents, Patrick and Lillian McCue, sisters Marie (Fred Mills), Elizabeth (James Tracey) and her husband of 54 years, James Hynes. She leaves to mourn five children, 13 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren: Daughters: Clara (Maurice Corcoran) and family - Marilyn (George Mooney), Nick, Placentia; Terry (Bridget) Tyler, Fort McMurray; Brian (Denise), Victoria, Fort McMurray; Madonna (Shawn Wakeham), Stephanie, Shawna, Belkford, B.C.; Marie (Aloysius Collins), Gregory, Placentia; Sons: John (Stella) and family - Shirley (Gerard Quilty), Samantha, Zackery, Kilbride; Geraldine (Raymond Roache), Cody, Rebecca, Kilbride; Cindy (friend Victor), Kristen, Ontario; John (Jenine), Cassie, Luke, Paradise; Melissa (Cory Mercer), Hayley, Brady, Ontario; Jim (Una) and family - Corey (Melanie) Abigayle, Brooklyn, Florida; Melanie (friend John Brody), Florida; Lindsay (Corey Gosse), Justin, Paradise; Patrick (Linda), Placentia. Madonna will be dearly missed by them as well as nephews, nieces and her many friends. Madonna was a person of many talents. A true artist who amazed us with her artistic vision and creative abilities. She designed and sewed her own quilts by hand. She changed in some way every outfit she ordered from the Sears catalogue. She crocheted, knitted, embroidered, cross stitched and painted. She loved her garden where, miraculously, everything flourished. Her greatest accomplishment was her song writing. She composed in her head without putting word to paper about 20 songs. We loved to hear her say "Sit down and I’ll sing the song I wrote today". She loved her weekend camping and summer travels, especially her visit to the Shrine of St. Anne De Beaupre. Madonna was also a business woman who operated her small corner store from her house in Placentia - a store she relocated from a backroom in her home in Presque. Always the fashionista, Madonna was aware of the latest styles and was always "turned out" to perfection. She was an active member of the Star of the Sea Association, serving as President of the Ladies’ Auxiliary. Always a community person, she sang in the choir, administered to the sick and shut-ins and took great comfort in her Church and religion. How fortunate we were and how grateful we are for having such a wonderful mother. It gives us great comfort to know she is finally at peace in the arms of the angels. Special thanks to: Father John from St. Bride’s parish for travelling to Placentia to administer the last rites; the nursing staff at the Lions Manor, Placentia, for their kindness and loving care during her stay; and Maher’s Funeral Home, Placentia, for their professional, dignified and caring assistance during this time of grief. The family will receive visitors at Maher’s Funeral Home, Placentia, on Friday, January 18, 2013 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Funeral Mass on Saturday, January 19 at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, Placentia. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations to Sacred Heart Church may be made in her memory. You are welcome to visit and sign our on-line guestbook at www.mahersfuneralhome.ca.
