Lena Funk

Lena Funk

Date de décès : 12 janvier 2013

FUNK, Lena (Rempel), age 101, our dearly loved centenarian, arrived in her heavenly home on Saturday, January 12, 2013. Lena was predeceased by her husband, Henry, in 1993, after sixty-three years of marriage. They farmed in the Rhineland district and retired to Swift Current in 1971. They had nine children which today is a four-generation family numbering one hundred sixty-one. Lena was also predeceased by nine other members of this family. We can imagine they will have a hearty heavenly family reunion. Lena leaves her remaining three siblings, many relatives and her multi-generational family a rich heritage of love, an unwavering faith in God, a multitude of prayers, a lifetime of caring for others, an open heart and door with warm hospitality, a love of music, a quick giggle and sense of humour, and more recently, an example of a patient, positive attitude toward life in spite of physical limitations. On July 9, 2011, on her 100th birthday, all of Lena’s generations celebrated her life with a family banquet, tributes and music. We will remember her, as then, as our regal family Queen – always warmly welcoming, gracious and dignified. Henry and Lena’s Rhineland home for thirty-one years has been restored as the Heritage House at the Mennonite Heritage Village where friends still gather for faspah. No doubt Henry and Lena’s heavenly home has an open door where they are waiting for all their family, as they always did, with their hugs, smiles and, “Velcome here!” The Funk family thanks all the personnel at the Swift Current Care Centre for their personal and professional care of Lena. The Care Centre was her home for the last fifteen years. She always said, “Don’t vorry about me. I have it good.” The Funeral Service was held on Saturday, January 19, 2013 at 2:00 pm from the Trailview Alliance Church, Swift Current, SK with Pastor John Regier officiating. The pianist for the service was Darlene Funk. “Redeemed”, “When We All Get to Heaven”, “It Will Be Worth It All”, “All that Thrills My Soul”, “Face to Face” and “Until Then” were sung by the congregation under the direction of Dave Funk. Tributes were brought by Colleen Wallace on behalf of the grandchildren and by a PowerPoint presentation by Betty Funk. Special music was brought by Bevan and Carrie Funk singing, “Knowing What I Know About Heaven” and by the Doreen Funk-Seeman Family singing, “I’ve Got Heaven on My Mind”. The ushers in the church were Lloyd and Lena Cowan, Leonard Rempel and Minnie Rempel. The Interment Service Preceded the Funeral Service and was held at the Mount Pleasant Burial Park, Swift Current, SK with the following serving as pallbearers, Bob Funk, Daryl Penner, Mark Hoekstra, Dustin Funk, Darren Hoekstra and Lavern Miller. In memory of Lena Funk, donations made to the Gideons International or to the Charity of the Donor’s Choice would be appreciated by the family.
