Bertha Alva (Hingley) Baird Bonnyman

Bonnyman, Bertha Alva (Hingley) Baird formerly of Salmon River, age 94, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on Tuesday, January 22, 2013 at Vimy Court, Bible Hill. Born in Kemptown, she was the third eldest daughter of 16 children of the late William and Susan (McCabe) Hingley. She was a former employee of Goodman’s and Eaton’s in Truro. Bertha was a member of Brunswick Street United Church and taught Sunday School, CGIT, and Explorers and was a member of UCW. She enjoyed bowling, playing cards with her friends, and senior’s dances. Bertha also belonged to the Rebekah Lodge. For the past 2 ½ years she lived at Vimy Court in Bible Hill where she enjoyed the musical programs and recreation activities up to her last evening as she listened to familiar fiddle music from her room. She is survived by daughter Judy (Warren) Ettinger; grandchildren Beth (Todd) Smith and Gregory (Heather Kitchen) Ettinger and her most treasured gifts, 4 great-grandchildren, Camryn & Jorja Smith and Aedan & Tristan Ettinger. She is also survived by step-daughter Elizabeth (Jamie Durning). She is also survived by 7 brothers, Laurie (Carol), Robert (Pat), Flemming (Grace), Ronald (Wilma), Preston (June), Earl (Ethel), Ernest (Sylvia) and 4 sisters- Muriel Murray, Maxine (Charles) Shearer, Aileen Gaudet (Doug Cox), Norma Green and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by 1st husband Arnold Baird and 2nd husband Clifford Bonnyman. Also predeceased by infant son, William Arnold Baird; brothers, Russel & Parker; sisters, Marjorie & Anne; brothers-in-law, Everett Marble, Fred Murray, Paul Green & Gerald Gaudet and sisters-in law, Helen Bernard, Gwen O’Toole, Carol Bryson and Phyllis McNutt; stepchildren, Bill and Clifford Jr. and wife Judy. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will take place in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow Street, Truro from 12:00 pm on Sunday, January 27 until time of the funeral service at 1:00 pm, Rev. Kym Burke-Cole officiating. Reception to follow the service. Burial at a later date. Immediate family flowers only.
