Mary Wood

Wood, Mary Ethel - 90, of Pugwash and formerly of Lake Killarney, passed away Sunday, January 27, 2013 in Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, Amherst with her family by her side. Born in Beckwith, Ethel was the daughter of the late Arthur and Susan (Lowther) Mattinson. Ethel with her husband Lorne raised their family along with operating a farm for many years in Lake Killarney. She was a member of the former Beckwith Baptist Church and was instrumental in having the former church site marked with a monument. In more recent years Ethel attended the Wallace River Baptist Church. She was a longstanding member of the Rebekah Lodge, Oxford. Ethel enjoyed knitting, quilting and was known to be a wonderful cook. For Ethel the most important part of her life was her family, which included her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ethel is survived by, son, Ronald (Edith), Lake Killarney; daughter, Cheryl (Charles) Newcombe, Malagash; grandchildren, Mark (Theresa) Wood and Tanya Wood (Matthew Mundle), both of Lake Killarney; Brandon and Dillon Newcombe, both of Malagash; great grandchildren, Natalie, Samantha, Paige, and Liam; special relative, Elvie (Thelma) Boyles, Alberta; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Lorne Kenneth Wood; brothers, Albert and Corey. Visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. Monday, January 28, with funeral service at 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 29, with Ruth Gamble officiating, all in MacDiarmid’s Funeral Home, 5075 Main Street, Oxford (447-2930).
