It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Ellen Margaret ‘Nellie’ Yates 95, on Sunday, January 27, 2013, at the home of her granddaughter, Marie and John David on Tower Road, where she resided the last 20 years
Born in Glace Bay, she was a daughter of the late Edward and Margret (Pettipas) Martell.
She is survived by son, Jim (Laura) Yates, Donkin Highway; daughter, Dorothy (Vincent) Turner, Tower Road; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; by her special sister, Christine Taylor and special sister-in-law, Frances Martell, both of Ontario.
She was predeceased by her husband, John James; daughter, Josephine O’Neil; many brothers and sisters including brother, Neddie who always had a special place in her heart.
She was a devout member of St. Mary’s Anglican Church and a dedicated homemaker for many years. Nellie enjoyed her nights of bingo, camping and card games with her family. Special thanks go out to Dr. O’Brien, his receptionist Crystal and the staff of County Homemakers – your compassion will never be forgotten.
At Nellie’s request, cremation has taken place under the care and direction of J. M. Curry Funeral Home, Glace Bay. There will be no visitation. A family graveside service in St. Mary’s Cemetery will be officiated by Rev. Vernon Reid.
“Nan, although you are gone, you will always remain in our hearts”
