It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Rita McNamara, age 85, of Glace Bay. Rita passed away on Jan. 29, 2013, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Reserve Mines, Rita was the daughter of the late Thomas Joseph and Mary (McDonald) McNamara.
Rita was a member of St. Joseph's Church, Reserve Mines.
She enjoyed dancing and playing cards for a pastime.
She is survived by sisters, Mary Martin, Toronto, Roseline McNamara, Sydney; and many nieces and nephews.
Rita was resident of Terrace Manor, Glace Bay since 1998 and will be sadly missed by her many friends there.
Besides her parents, Rita was predeceased by her brothers, Joseph, Francis, Leo, Vince, sisters, Margaret, Freda, Carmella, Jane and one in infancy.
There will be no visitation for Rita. Cremation has taken place under the care and guidance of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. on Saturday in the funeral home chapel with Fr. Daniel Boudreau officiating. Interment will follow in St. Joseph's/Holy Family Cemetery.
