We regret to announce the passing of Mary Catherine McBride, on Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013, at the Northside Community Guest Home, North Sydney.
A native of Sydney Mines, she was the daughter of the late Joseph A. and Willena (Ferguson) McCormick.
Mrs. McBride was a volunteer member of the Canadian Women's Army Corps during the Second World War, and was a longtime member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Breton Branch # 8, Sydney Mines.
Surviving to mourn her loss are her sister, Ida (Mrs. K.C. Batt), Brantford, Ont.; her special niece and nephew, Judy and Ron Catherwood, plus numerous other dearly loved nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers, Allen, Rodney, Gerald, Leonard, Donald, Joseph, John and Ronald, and sisters, Mildred (Carey), Ann (MacLeod) and Peggy (Grosvold).
At Mary's request, there will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of J. M. Jobes Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. A memorial mass will be held at 10 a.m., on Monday, Feb. 4, 2013, in Immaculate Conception Church, Sydney Mines, with Fr. Thomas John officiating. A legion service will be held after the mass. Following the service, a reception will take place at the Royal Canadian Legion, Sydney Mines.
