Sadie ‘Mae’ MacLean, in her 70th year of life, passed away on Feb. 4, 2013, on her 46th wedding anniversary, peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family.
Predeceased by parents, John P. MacNeil, Sarah Catherine MacDougall, and siblings Danny, Tony, Joan, Lawrence, Hector, John R. and Martina.
Mae was born in Pipers Cove, attended high school in Iona and Sydney Business College. Raising her family in Ancaster, Ont., until 2000, where she had a long career with Canadian Medical laboratories.
She possessed an entrepreneurial spirit running a small gluten-free bakery years before anyone had ever heard of celiac disease. Mae and Allan then retired home to Islandview, C.B.
Mae lent her abundant enthusiasm and energy to various social activities most prominent of which was her involvement with the Cape Breastoners Dragon boat team.
Family was most important to Mae, she was always there when you needed her. Mae was a great role model with her optimism and positive outlook on life inspiring many.
Sadie Mae is survived by her husband, Allan MacLean; and her four sons, John (Penny), Jason (Kathy), Josh (Cynthia) and David (Tanya); and grandchildren, Tristan, Owen, Kieran, Teagan and Wyatt. Also survived by siblings, Margaret McLellan (Ron), Norman MacNeil (Ambrosa), Kathy Collins (Don), Michael MacNeil (Carmen), Joseph MacNeil (Renee) and John MacNeil (Kim).
The family would like to express their gratitude to sister, Kathy and brother, Micheal, close friends, Dan and Colleen MacCormack and Teresa Doucette for their love and support during Mae’s time of need.
The care and support of the VON nurses, palliative care team and the Sydney Cancer Centre was invaluable during this difficult transition in Mae’s life.
Visitation for the late Sadie Mae MacLean will take place Thursday, Feb. 7 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel. Funeral mass will be celebrated Friday at 2:30 p.m. at St. Mary’s Church, East Bay, with Rev. Frank Abbass officiating. Interment in the parish cemetery.
