On Jan. 31, 2013 Kathleen E. Campbell, 88, Dartmouth, passed away at Northwood Health Centre after a prolonged illness.
Kathie was born on Nov. 22, 1924 in Jamesville, Victoria County, Cape Breton, the eldest child of Neil and Mary Sarah (MacNeil) Campbell.
She is survived by a brother, Pius (Pauline), Jamesville; a sister, Florence (Walter) MacNeil, Sydney/Grand Narrows; nieces, Janet McCabe, Sydney; Neila McCabe, Truro; Nancy (Kevin) Neil, Maitland; Francine Campbell Mack, Ottawa; Janice (Bill) MacGregor, Dartmouth and Mary Elizabeth (Chris) Kaiser, Calgary; nephews, Neil (Susan) & John (Kelly) Campbell, Gananoque, Ont.; James MacNeil, Grand Narrows and great-nieces and nephews, especially her only godchild, Neil Angus MacGregor.
She was predeceased by her parents; sister, Teresa McCabe; brothers, Frank, Gananoque; Jack, Kingston; Rev. Lt. Col. Jim Campbell, Halifax; niece, Geraldine McCabe; nephews, Gerard and Wayne (Madeline) McCabe, Halifax.
Kathie was a loving force in all our lives. Her joy of life, her determination to live life to its fullest and her example in faith, has given all of us an example of excellence.
She graduated from the Nova Scotia Provincial Normal College in 1947. She then joined the Congregation of St. Martha. It was during her years of service with the Sisters of St Martha that she taught in various places in Nova Scotia and Alberta, received her Bachelor of Arts and her Bachelor of Education from St. F.X. University and her Masters of Education from Gonzaga University, Spokane Washington, in 1971.
Kathie joined the Calgary Catholic School Board as a lay teacher where she taught, was a guidance counsellor and then a principal prior to her retirement in 1983. She moved to Dartmouth and became very involved in the parish community of Pope John XXIII, continuing her life long involvement in her faith community.
Kathie loved good company, good food and wine, literature, music, travel, adventure. She loved her family and we all loved her back. We will miss her.
A Funeral Mass was held at Blessed Pope John XXIII Catholic Church in Dartmouth on Monday, Feb. 4, 2013.

We would like to thank the staff at 6C Northwood, Dr. Meehan, Dr. V. Mitchell, and all the health care professionals who were with us on Kathie’s journey.
