MATTHIE, Phoebe Emolyn, age 98, died peacefully at the Swift Current Care Centre on Wednesday, January 30, 2013. Phoebe is survived by her two daughters, Phoebe (Raymond) Bunnell of Swift Current, SK - their sons, Murray Bunnell of Calgary, AB and Mark (LeAnne) Bunnell - their daughters, Alexa and Eden all of Calgary, AB: Muriel Vickers of Swift Current, SK - her daughter, Brenda Vickers of North Battleford, SK - her son, Brent (Shayla) Vickers - their son, Rylan all of Swift Current, SK; her son, George (Helene) Matthie of Swift Current, SK - his son, Kelly Goertzen of Calgary, AB, his daughter, Karen St Germain - her son, Joshua all of Calgary, AB; her brother, Leslie (Pat) Hatch of Victoria, BC; her sister-in-law, Elizabeth Babcock of Regina, SK; and by numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased in 1988, by Eugene, her beloved husband of 56 years; her two sisters, Muriel and Effie; and by two brothers, Albert Hatch and Ernest Hatch. Phoebe was born on May 14, 1914, in Winnipeg, MB and attended school in North Battleford, SK. She was married to Eugene in June, 1932, and their three children were born in North Battleford, SK. The family moved to Swift Current in July, 1949. Phoebe’s love for and devotion to her family will be remembered and honored by all who knew her. An avid, lifelong reader, Phoebe spent several years working at the Swift Current Public Library, a job she loved. When she no longer went out, her family had to work hard to keep her supplied with books. Phoebe was a skilled craftswoman, sewing, knitting, crocheting, and especially creating beautiful works in petit point, which she continued to do into her nineties. She was a resident of Heritage Towers for nine years. Phoebe was a member of the First United Church, Swift Current, SK. The family would like to express their deep gratitude to Tanice Byers, her caregiver, and to the staff of the Swift Current Care Centre for all the care and loving kindness so generously shown to Phoebe. You made her life and the lives of her family easier and happier. Thank you. A Service to Celebrate Phoebe’s life will be held in May, 2013, and the notice will be published at that time.
