VICKERY, Ray Garth- 76, of Chebogue Road, Yarmouth Co., Passed away peacefully on February 17, 2013 at Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born March 30, 1936 at his home in Rockville he was the son of the late Oliver and Hazel (Gallagher) Vickery. Ray loved hunting, fishing, crib, and storytelling. He liked nothing better than a good hand of crib and teaching others how to play crib. Dad loved to joke around, sometimes at his own expense; you would always have a great laugh. He was the best storey teller about days gone by, his travels, hunting, fishing, and expeditions like hunting trips or when he and his brother Roy ventured back to Three Branch Brook. With his stories he would draw you in just like you were there with him. He is survived by daughters, Jerry (Wayne Austin), Halifax; Patty (Craig) Smith, Kelly’s Cove; step daughters, Emmeline Parsons ( Larry Lusk), MacCormack Road; Pamelia( Michael) Corporon, Little River Harbour; stepsons, John Sichky (Diane), Chester; Michael Sichky (Katherine), Kentville; sisters, Avis (Smith), New Brunswick; 19 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. Besides his parents Ray is pre deceased by his wife, Helen Catherine Belle (White); step daughter, Glenda Sichky; sister, Beatrice (Porter); Margie (Purdy); brothers, George, Leslie, Maynard, and Roy. Those that knew him as a father, brother, uncle, and friend loved him and were blessed as he was a great man and we will miss him dearly. He will live in our hearts forever. Also a big thank you to the girls on four south where dad was from June to December, he called them his girls and loved them dearly, he said they made him “ Happy happy happy”. Also thank you to the Doctors and staff of the third floor East and friends and staff at the Villa Saint Joseph du Lac as well as King Frost at the Villa Saint Joseph du Lac for being such as great friend. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Sweeny's Funeral Home and Crematorium, Yarmouth. Visitation took place Wednesday, February 20, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in Sweeny’s Funeral Home Chapel. A funeral service was held Thursday, February 21, at 11 a.m. from Sweeny’s Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Michael Cannell officiating. Family flowers only. Interment will be in Chebogue Cemetery at a later date. Donations in Ray’s memory may be made to the Nova Scotia Heart and Stroke Foundation, Nova Scotia Lung Association, Nova Scotia Kidney Association or the charity of your choice.
