MANNING, HAZEL GERTRUDE 87 – New Glasgow, formerly of Truro, passed away peacefully February 16, 2013, with her loving daughters by her side. Born in Five Islands, Hazel was the eldest daughter of the late Frederick and Josephine (Canning) Aylward. She will be deeply missed by her daughters Shelley (George Smith) and Laura (Bernie Curran); sisters Ethel Yorke (Darrell) and Beryl Johnson; grandchildren Jeffrey, Allison, and Adam; and many special nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her loving partner Stewart MacDonald; sisters Marie Canning, Mabel Feltmate, Elva Dunphy, infant brother Frederick Jr. and half sister Iona Soley. Hazel enjoyed working with the public, first as a hairdresser and later as a convenience store owner, until her retirement in 1992. She very much enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and her grandchildren brought her tremendous joy. Special thanks are extended to the staff at the Glen Haven Manor who provided Mom with exceptional care and compassion. Visitation will take place on Thursday, February 21 from 10 – 11:00 am followed by the funeral service at 11:00 am, both in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow Street, Truro with Pastor Mike Simmons officiating.
