Joseph Gregory ‘Salty’ McDougall, 54, of Catherine Street, Glace Bay, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital after a year and a half battle with cancer.
Born in No. 11, Glace Bay, Salty was the son of Sarah (MacPhee) McDougall and the late John McDougall.
Salty was a jack of all trades with his main specialty being carpentry work. He was employed at various jobs in Ontario and Cape Breton. Salty was an avid sports fan; his greatest passion was hockey, his favourite team was the Boston Bruins. He collected many Bruins memorabilia; especially hockey cards. Salty was blessed with a great sense of humour.
Besides his mother, Salty is survived by the love of his life, his daughter, Sara (Kevin), at home; three sisters, his guardian angel, Janet Eyking (John), Boularderie, Nancy MacNeil (Donald), Glace Bay, Carol Muise, Ontario, and his high school sweetheart and fiancée, Gail Bond.
Salty was predeceased by his father and his best friend, Jimmy Murrin.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. A funeral service for Salty will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay, with Fr. Norman MacPhee officiating.
As an expression of sympathy for Salty, memorial donations in his memory may be made to Palliative Care.
