UECKERT - Johanna Erika Ueckert (Kahles) age 98, passed away at the Swift Current Care Centre on Tuesday, March 5, 2013. Johanna was born on January 17, 1915, in Berlin, Germany. She married the love of her life,
Hans Siegfried Ueckert, on September 19, 1939. While living in Germany, Johanna worked as a seamstress. In 1957, they immigrated to Canada with their two boys, Hans and Fred, and settled in Calgary, AB, where she worked at the Hotel Wales as a chambermaid/seamstress. Johanna retired to Vernon, BC, and later moved to Swift Current, SK. Johanna’s fondest memories were of family times spent at their favorite swimming spot in Germany, their trips to Banff and of visits with grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who all lovingly knew her as their Oma. It was a very proud moment for Johanna when she received her Canadian Citizenship papers on March 22, 1985. Johanna was predeceased by her husband, Hans, in 1964. She leaves to remember the fun times, her two sons, Hans (Grace) and Fred (Loris); her five grandchildren, Jason, Tracy, Alison, Michelle and Annette; and her eight great-grandchildren. Thank-you to the Home Care Staff for giving mom her independence back for a few years, and to the Swift Current Care Centre Staff who cared for her these past two years.
