Dorothy P. Currie

April 14, 1932-March 8, 2013
Peacefully at the Georgetown Hospital, after a brief but courageous journey. Dorothy "Dot" Currie (nee Dewar), in her 81st year.
Predeceased by her beloved husband, Frank, in 2011. Cherished mother of Robert, Ronald, Gail and Frank Jr. (Kim). Proud grandmother of Teresa (Mark), Tori (Justin), Sean, Chris, Graeme and Katie. Dear great-grandmother of Aiden, Jason and Mackenzie. Much loved aunt to many nieces and nephews. Survived by sister, Judy Clow of P.E.I. Predeceased by sisters, Helen (David Peat, B.C.), Lois, Christine (Eric Gaudet, P.E.I.) and by her brother, Peter Dewar.
Dorothy was born and raised in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. Although she moved to Georgetown with her family in 1968, Dorothy maintained contact with many of her friends on the Island and cherished her friendships formed during her days at Prince of Wales College.
Dorothy was an avid and competitive golfer, an active bridge player since her teens as well as a former curler for many years at North Halton. As her children started to leave the nest, Dorothy struck out on a new adventure, ultimately finding her niche as an events coordinator at the Toronto World Trade Centre where she worked up until her retirement. After the death of her husband in 2011, Dorothy left her beloved home in Silver Creek and moved into a condo at The Bennett Gallery in Georgetown where she was warmly welcomed into a new circle of friends and activities.
Dorothy was an excellent hostess and had a talent for making people feel welcome and at ease. She loved life and lived it to the fullest. An eternal optimist even in the face of a devastating diagnosis, Dorothy maintained her enthusiasm for living and her love of family and friends. She will be missed more than words can say.
Friends will be received at the J.S. Jones and Son Funeral Home, 11582 Trafalgar Road, north of Maple Avenue, Georgetown (905) 877-3631 on Friday, March 15, from 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held in the chapel on Saturday, March 16, at 2 p.m. (Doors open at 1 p.m.) Cremation has taken place. Interment in Charlottetown, P.E.I., at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Georgetown Hospital Foundation would be greatly appreciated by the family.
