It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Bertha Reid on Thursday, April 11, 2013, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, with family by her side.
Born in Sydney Mines, she was the eldest daughter of the late John T. and Mary Laidlaw.
She is survived by her sisters, Mildred Laidlaw, Sydney, Mary (George) Mackenzie, Sydney; as well as nephews and nieces.
She was predeceased by her husband, Leslie Reid and her sister, Freda and brother-in-law, Wilfred Ferguson.
Bertha was a lifelong member of Clyde Avenue Baptist Church, serving with her many friends in the choir for well over 60 years. She also took great pleasure in teaching Sunday school as well. Bertha was a life member of the United Baptist Women’s Missionary Union. Her church family meant so much to her, God bless you.
We would like to thank the nurses and staff at Irish Cove of Harbourstone Enhanced Care who helped Bertha in finding her new home these last years. Also the EMTs, Dr. MacKenzie and the nurses at the regional hospital's ER. Thank you all.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., Sunday, April 14, 2013, at Fillmore and Whitman Funeral Home, 10 Clyde Ave., Sydney Mines. Funeral service will be held at Clyde Avenue Baptist Church, Monday, April 15 at 2 p.m.
