STELLARTON – Ernest Nathanial Martin, age 63, of High St., Stellarton, passed away suddenly at his home on February 15th, 2010.
Born in Stellarton, he was the eldest son of the late Earl and Irene (Moffat) Martin.
He resided in Stellarton all his life. Ernie was recently honoured for his 40 years of dedication and service to the Stellarton Fire Department and his community. In his early years he was an employee of the Stellarton Memorial Rink and was also a well known and respected cab driver for Jim’s Taxi, Stellarton. For the next 29 years Ernie was employed as a millwright at the Nova Scotia Power Trenton Generating Station.
Ernie was a devoted husband, a loving father, a caring brother and a true friend to all who knew him. The most important thing in his life was his family. He met all of life challenges with a smile and a great sense of humour. He was a hard worker and in his spare time he enjoyed woodworking in his garage where visitors were always welcome. Ernie and his family shared in many treasured memories on Caribou Island, his “Home away from home.”
He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Theresa (Rose), the light of his life daughter, Kim (Dave Driscoll), Dartmouth; and family pet, Simon. Also surviving are; brothers: Owen (Carol), John Kay (Margaret), Cecil (Kenda); sister, Earla (Stan) Mayich; special Aunt Isabel Martin, all of Stellarton; and several nieces and nephews who looked up to their Uncle Ernie.
His remains will rest in the H.C. MacQuarrie Funeral Home, Stellarton, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday. Funeral service will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in First Presbyterian Church, Stellarton, with Rev. John Roy officiating. Burial will be in the Heatherdale Memorial Gardens.
Donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or the Pictou County SPCA.
