We regret to announce the passing of our mother, Ethel MacLean, on Monday, May 6, 2013 in Seaview Manor, Glace Bay, after a brief illness.
Born on October 6, 1922 in Burnt Islands, Newfoundland, she was the daughter of the late Catherine and Richard Hardy.
She is survived by her children, Donna (Harry) Pitcher, Halifax; Mick (Lorna) MacLean, Sydney; Bill (CC) MacLean, Rothesay, New Brunswick; Barbara (Andy) Pittman, Coxheath. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren, Trevor (Knickolle) Pitcher, Bible Hill; Jody Pitcher, Halifax; Jan MacLean (fiancé Beth Anne MacEachern), Dartmouth; Alan MacLean (Sue Kauffman), South Bar; Heather (Mark) Reid, Rothesay, NB; Aynsley (Mitchell) Coates, Kelligrews, NL; Sheila MacLean, Halifax; Keith Pittman, Calgary, AB; Cheryl (Ian) MacInnis, Coxheath and 7 great grandchildren, Aiden and Liam Pitcher, Sam MacLean; Cash and Sadie Coates and Carmen and Allie MacInnis.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Michael 'Bud' MacLean in 1985, her step father William Power and two step brothers, Sid and Rudy Power.
There is no visitation as per Mom's wishes. Cremation has taken place under the direction of T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday, May 9 at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Church with Rev. Dwaine Devereaux officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
Donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or a charity of one's choice.
The family wishes to thank the staff of 3B, CBRH and Seaview Manor for the excellent care given to our mother.
