Hilda Christine Hilchey

The death occurred at the Kings County Memorial Hospital on May 7, 2013 of Mrs. Hilda Christine Hilchey (nee Beaton), at the age of 95.
Predeceased by her husband, Archie, in 1976, brother, Curtis and sister, Agnes.
Survived by son, Sandy of Miramichi, New Brunswick (his wife Carol Ann, their daughter Pam Dupuis and her son Joseph); their son Todd Dupuis, (his wife Tracy Lightfoot and their son Matthew); and daughter Annabel of Edmonton, Alberta (her husband Bob Brophy and their sons Sandy and Will); sister, Earla of High River, Alberta; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Hilda was born on the family farm in Flat River, PEI, on June 25, 1917, the second oldest of four children of Alexander Beaton and Annie Isabel Beaton (nee MacLean). While living in Ottawa she met Army Postal Corps Staff Sergeant Archie Hilchey from Montague, PEI. They married in 1942. After his discharge, she and Archie moved to Montague and lived in the yellow house on Fraser Street since 1949.
Music, friendship and duty have been the cornerstones of her life. Hilda played the piano for many different events, and jigs and reels would sound throughout her home on many evenings as she played for pure pleasure. She was a charter member of the UCW and active in the United Church choir for over 50 years. Hilda held her friends dear and continued to make new ones throughout her long life. Her relationships with young people gave her great joy. Her sense of duty and service to others was very well developed. She was caregiver for numerous family members, including 17 years tending to her mother's needs. Many different volunteer organizations have benefitted from her skills and dedication. Using her sewing talent, she worked on everything from horse blankets to wedding dresses. Hilda will, of course, be remembered for her passion for scrabble, biscuits and cats.
Our mother's life was a life well lived.
Sincere thanks to the staff of Perrin's Marina Villa and the Kings County Memorial Hospital, as well as to Dr. Scott Campbell, for the kind and gentle care she received as her health declined during the last few weeks of her life.
Resting at Ferguson-Logan Montague Funeral Home where visitation will be held Friday, May 10, 2013 from 5-8 p.m. Sandy and Annabel invite you to a Celebration of Life for their mother to be held at Hillcrest United Church in Montague on Saturday, May 11, 2013 at 11 a.m. Interment in the Lower Montague Cemetery. Reception to follow at Hillcrest United Church Lower Hall.
