It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Rhonda Lynn Matthys (Varrence) after a two year courageous battle with cancer. She passed away May 9, 2013, at her home in Calgary, Alta., surrounded by her loving family.
Rhonda is survived by her best friend and husband of 20 years, Michael; she was a proud and devoted mother of two sons, Ryan and Josh — her pride and her joy; father, Joe (Sandy) New Waterford; sister, Kelly (Trevor) Leadbeater; brother, Gilbert (Shannon), Edmonton; father and mother-in-law, Emile ‘Brother’ (Marie) Matthys, Lingan. Rhonda was a loving aunt of Evelyn, Farrah, Kiley, Dawson, Kaiden, Ryder, Kinley.
Rhonda was a proud employee of West-Jet.
She was predeceased by her also her loving mother, Velma Varrence, paternal grandparents, Louie and Florence Varrence, maternal grandparents, Joseph and Jenny Gilbert, mother-in-law, Helen ‘Tootsie’ Matthys, also her guardian angel and nephew, Brandon and many aunts and uncles.
Visitation will be held Friday, May 17, 2013, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and a funeral mass to celebrate Rhonda’s life will be held Saturday, May 18, 2013, at 10 a.m. in Parish of Saint Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, with Fr. Everett MacDow officiating. Burial to follow in St. Ann’s Cemetery, Glace Bay.
