SCHULTZ: It is with great sadness the family of Penny Lee Schultz (Philipchuk), age 60, announce her sudden passing on Wednesday, May 8, 2013 in Swift Current, SK. Penny is survived by her husband Randy Schultz; daughters Abby Schultz, Becky (Brett) Mitchell, and Cassy (Jamey) Feil; grandchildren Rhys Mitchell, Jobey Feil, Conley Feil, and Daxx Feil; sister Sheree (Dave) Wall; mother-in-law Mary Schultz; brother-in-laws Dennis (Lauren) Schultz, Darrell (Teresa) Schultz, Greg Schultz, and Sandy (Liza) Schultz; and numerous other family members and close friends. Penny is predeceased by her parents Ted and Merle Philipchuk and father-in-law Dave Schultz. Penny was born on May 24, 1952 in Balcarres, SK and grew up in Weyburn, Regina, and Swift Current. She convocated from the University of Regina in 1976 with a Bachelor of Education degree and taught in Chaplin, Ponteix, and Wymark in her early career. Penny married husband Randy on June 28, 1980 in Swift Current, SK and they welcomed daughters Abby in 1983, Becky in 1984, and Cassy in 1986. Penny took time off of teaching to stay home with her daughters and together with her husband purchased Swift Auto Body in 1988. Penny returned to teaching full-time in 1998 and was teaching grade 3 at Central School until the time of her passing. She was passionate about her career and had a lifelong love of learning. She valued the uniqueness of each student and helping them progress throughout the school year. In addition, Penny shared many fond memories of her colleagues, many of whom she also considered good friends. Penny is remembered as a loving wife, mom, and grandma; she always put her family first. She loved celebrating the holidays and carrying on family traditions. She enjoyed traveling to Mexico and Las Vegas with her family and going to Lethbridge and Duchess to visit her daughters, son-in-laws, and grandchildren. In the summer she could be found camping at the Saskatchewan Landing, boating, going to the beach, walking, cheering on her husband while he raced his stock car, and working in her yard. During the rest of the year she enjoyed curling, attending Allied Arts concerts, and going to hockey games with her family. Penny’s lively spirit and unique sense of humor will be greatly missed; she often made her family laugh so hard they cried. She was kind and extremely generous. She would literally give you the shirt off her back, especially if you liked it. Penny’s unconditional love for her family and friends will live on in memories even though she is no longer with us. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at First United Church in Swift Current, SK with Minister Sharon Ferguson-Hood officiating. The life tribute was presented by Penny’s friend of 50 years Diane Rittinger. Pallbearers were Brett Mitchell, Jamey Feil, Dennis Schultz, Darrell Schultz, Greg Schultz, and Sandy Schultz. The interment service took place at Hillcrest Cemetery. Warren’s Funeral Home was entrusted with arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice.
