Frieda Becker

Date de naissance : 6 mai 1929

Date de décès : 11 mai 2013

BECKER, Mrs. Frieda (Guse), age 84, of Herbert, SK, passed away peacefully at the Herbert & District Integrated Health Facility hospital, on May 11, 2013. Frieda was born on May 6, 1929, in Lodz, Poland, to Adolph & Olga Guse. At the age of 2, she came to Canada with her mother to join her dad, who had immigrated to Canada in 1930, at Yellow Grass, SK. She attended schools in the Lang and Yellow Grass area, and high school in Chaplin. She worked at the Royal Bank in several locations, until she married Frederick Becker, on November 21, 1954. They were blessed with two children, Bev and Les, who were the love of their lives. Frieda and Bev not only had a close mother/daughter relationship but were also next door neighbours for the years Frieda lived in Herbert. Les spent many hours working alongside his father tending to the land and sometimes cattle, but always enjoyed coming home to a delicious home cooked meal after a long day at work. Her grandchildren, remember the times grandma would entertain them with her comical songs and tea parties. Her great-grandchildren were always a ray of sunshine and would bring a smile in spite of her health hardships. Although being a homemaker was her priority, she worked countless hours volunteering for the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Herbert, doing bookkeeping/secretarial duties, teaching Sunday School, DVBS and as president of the ladies group. Compiling a 70 year history book of the church was a project she enjoyed and did well. Her favorite hobbies were sewing, quilting, crocheting and of course the gardens and flowers. Frieda will always be remembered for her entertainment with a delicious spread of food/baking whether in the field at harvest or in her home. Her garden produced abundantly with many appealing jars of fruit, frozen vegetables, rhubarb and apple pies. She faithfully made her rounds picking up friends to have afternoon card games and coffee. Many quilts and afghans were sewn and crocheted for family, friends and mission organizations. Although she loved life, she assured us she was ready to embrace her heavenly home, to be reunited with loved ones who would be waiting for her there. Frieda was predeceased by her husband, Fred, in April, 1994; her mother, in 1955; her father, in 1941; three sisters in infancy; her stepfather, in 1990; and numerous other relatives. She leaves to mourn her daughter, Bev (Ron Thiessen); her son, Les (Lorraine); her grandchildren, Cherise (Gord) Tacholsky - their children, Shalaye and Raymond: Brandon (Kayla) Becker: Clayton (Whitney) Becker; her sister, Doris (Jim) Bauck and family: Rhonda (Lonnie) Ens - their son, Grady: Gene Bauck (Dana) - his children, Kallie Bauck and Brodie (Tammy) Bauck - their son, Bently: Lynn (Chris) Bauck - their children, Desiree (Don) and Dakota. The Funeral Service was held on Saturday, May 18, 2013, at 2:00 pm from St. Paul Lutheran Church, Herbert, SK with Pastor Linda Hall officiating. The organist for the service was Lois Mabbs with special music brought by soloist, Whitney Becker. “Just As I Am” and “Blessed Assurance” were sung by the congregation. Tributes were shared by Cherise Tacholsky on behalf of the grandchildren and by Brandon Becker on behalf of Bev and Les. The life history was read by Rhonda Ens.
