LELAND, MARGARET FRANCES - Margaret Frances (McVicar) Leland, relic of the late Leonard James "Ben" Leland, passed away peacefully in her sleep, on May 18, 2013, at her home on Main Street in Saint George, NB, after several years of declining health and dementia, under the care of her daughter, Marilyn. Born January 11, 1925 at Carleton Street, Saint George, NB, Marg was the daughter of the late John Valentine McVicar and the late Kathleen Mary (Brown) McVicar; granddaughter of John McVicar, Mary (Leavitt) McVicar, Henry Brown and Anne (McPike) Brown. Marg was raised at Alderbrook Farm, on what was then Basinview Avenue in Saint George. She was graduated from Saint George Superior High School on June 26, 1942 and from Saint Joseph's Hospital School of Nursing on April 02, 1947. She received her Nurses' Registration (RN) on May 28, 1947. She worked as a Registered Nurse at Saint Joseph's Hospital, Fundy Hospital and as a private duty nurse until the 1960's. Marg is survived by seven (7) sons and seven (7) daughters; Mary Teresa (Richard "Mac") MacDonald of Pasadena, NL; Peter McLeod Leland of Black's Harbour; Nellie Ann (Daniel) Wright of Moncton; Kathleen Frances (Wylie) MacKeigan of Rothesay; John William (Judy) Leland of Caithness; Leonard Joseph (Irene) Leland of Black’s Harbour; Rosalie Jane (Stig) Skodje of Saint George; Glen Anthony Gerard (Lorraine) Leland of Caithness; Marilyn Maria (William "Billy") Bennett of Baxter's Corner; Margaret Clare McVicar (Thomas) Dick of Caithness; Benjamin Paul Timothy Leland of Detroit, Michigan; Veronica Marie Alice (Leonard) Cassidy of Saint John; James Thomas Alexander (Lori) Leland of Caithness; and Patrick Andrew Kevin Leland of Saint George. Marg is also survived by fifty (50) Grandchildren, many great grandchildren, two brothers and a sister; Neil Frederick McVicar (Jean "Jeannie" Verna Stairs); Clayton Francis McVicar (Agnes Jane Josephine Savoy); and Rosalind Elizabeth McVicar. Besides her parents and her husband, Marg was predeceased by three brothers and three sisters, Marie Alice Clow (H Arnold Clow, deceased); Arthur Hugh McVicar (Beatrice Lillian MacVicar, deceased); Harold John McVicar (Frances Marie "Eva" Kinney, deceased); Ralph Eugene McVicar (Rita Myra Williamson); Inez Kathleen Holmes (Bryce "Jack" Raymond Holmes, deceased); and Marilyn "Ming" Maxine Bonvie (Charles "Maxie" Henry Bonvie, deceased). Marg was a devote member of the Saint George Roman Catholic Church, having been baptised, confirmed and married there. Marg was staunchly Pro Life and a founding member of the Saint John Right to Life. Marg enjoyed her indoor plants, family and staying close to home.
Visitation will take place at the St. George Funeral Home (755-3533), 26 Portage Street, Saint George, NB on Sunday, May 19, 2013 from 7 to 9 pm; and on Monday, May 20, 2013 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. A Requiem Mass, for the repose of Marg's soul, will be said on Tuesday, May 21, 2013 at 11 am at Saint George Roman Catholic Church with Father Rolando Suplido officiating. Interment will take place at the Saint George Roman Catholic Cemetery, Upper Letang, NB, and a reception will follow at the Legion Hall, until 2:30 pm. In Marg's memory, donations to the Saint George Roman Catholic Church Building Fund or to the Saint John Right to Life would be appreciated.
