FROESE- Katherine Froese, “Kay” as she was known to many, passed away at the Swift Current Care Centre on Saturday, May 18, 2013, at the age of 88. Katherine was born on April 23, 1925, in Blumenort, SK, to Johan & Helena Martens. She married Jacob Froese on November 21, 1948. They resided and farmed in Blumenort until 1976, when they moved to Swift Current and worked together at the Pioneer Coop until they retired in 1987. Katherine was a member of the Wymark EM Church for many years and enjoyed her many friends there. She enjoyed her flower gardens, meeting friends for a meal or coffee and particularly enjoyed fun and laughter. Through good times and hardship, she put family first and chose to include rather than exclude. Katherine is survived by her daughter, Elaine Dyck; her son, Ken (Zelda) Froese; her grandsons, Sheldon, Stacey and Kevin (fiancée, Andie); her great-grandchildren, Ryan, Brittney, Deja, Carter and Keillan; her sisters, Susan (John) and Ann; and by numerous nieces, nephews and others that were special in Katherine’s life. She was predeceased by her husband, Jacob Froese, on February 22, 1992; a son in infancy, February 24, 1955; her son-in-law, Martin Dyck, March 19, 2011; Sheldon’s fiancée, Shannon, September 28, 2010; her parents, Johan & Helena Martens; her brothers, Jake, Cornelius and John; and by her sisters, Mary, Helen and Elizabeth. We will always remember and cherish her. She will be greatly missed by her family and all who knew her. The Funeral Service was held on Thursday, May 23, 2013 at 2:00 pm from the Wymark EM Church, Chortitz, SK with Pastor Paul Little officiating. The pianist for the service was Tina Peters with special music brought by Paula & Mandy Friesen. Scripture was read from 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18. “Sweet Bye and Bye” and “What a Friend We Have In Jesus” were sung by the congregation. A tribute was shared by Lisa Reimer with Henry Banman reading the life history. The ushers in the church were Marvin Allan and Cornelius Fehr. The Interment Service was held at the Wymark EMC Cemetery with the following nephews serving as pallbearers, Peter Martens, John Fehr, Abe Fehr, Henry Banman, Jake Banman and Stan Friesen. In memory of Katherine Froese, donations made to the Swift Current Care Centre or to the Charity of the Donor’s Choice would be appreciated by the family.
