Howard Ambrose Oakley, 82, of Mira Road, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 28, 2013, at Harbourstone Enhanced Care Residence, Sydney.
Born in Sydney, the son of the late Ambrose and Jemima (Howard) Oakley.
Before his illness, he enjoyed a good game of horseshoes, planting a vegetable garden (he was said to have a green thumb), fishing, and could be found grocery shopping looking for a good sale ... he was always trying to save a penny. He also loved to sit and talk over a good cup of tea.
Howard was a great Dad who loved his children dearly.
He is survived by his three daughters, Maureen (Vince), Arlene and Kim, his five sons, Howie, Carl, Lance (Carolyn), Leonard and Kenny (Tracy); 11 grandchildren, Jennifer (Scott), Amanda (Chris), Christopher, Michelle, Kyle, Jeffrey, Travis, Jamey, Dylan, Jason and Justin; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Clara and Laurel (Frankie); four brothers, Gerald (Bessie), Murray, Walter (Jean), Karl and very close friend, Todd Day.
He was predeceased by his loving wife, Florence, brother, Bob; sister, Ellen, brothers-in-law, Roy Pace and Francis Oakley and sister-in-law, Marg Oakley.
There will be no visitation. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, June 1 at 10:30 a.m. in Immaculate Heart Church with Rev. Conrad Edwards officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
