It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Norman Ronald John MacDonald, 80, on Saturday, June 1, 2013, in the An Cala Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital after a brief illness.
Norman was born in Whitney Pier, May 22, 1933. He was the son of the late Norman and Linda (Schlorff) MacDonald.
Norman was a member of Holy Redeemer parish, Whitney Pier. He was employed for a number of years at Sydney Steel. He enjoyed reading and in his younger years enjoyed his large music collection. Norman was a big fan of the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team.
He is survived by sister, Helen MacNeil, Sydney Forks; many nieces and nephews; one grandniece; nine grandnephews and one great-grandnephew; as well as many cousins in the United States and Winnipeg.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Margie MacDonald of L’Arche, Antigonish, whom Norman thought the world of.
For the past number of years Norman has lived at Southview Guest Home in South Bar with Kevin and Noreen Nicholson, who treated him as if he were a part of their own family.
Family flowers only please, donations in Norman’s memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or Schizophrenia Society of Nova Scotia.
Visitation will be held 7-9 p.m., Tuesday, June 4, and a funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Wednesday, June 5, both from T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
