Halifax, NS. It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the Tobin family announces the passing of their beloved husband, father, son, uncle and friend. Rick was born in St. John’s, NL to Agnes Tobin and the late Pius Tobin. He is survived by his three girls, his wife of 22 years, Sharon (Janes) Tobin and their daughters, Hillary Diane Tobin and Richelle June Tobin. He also leaves his brothers, Marc (Holly), John (Lois), Dan and Ron Tobin; his sister in law Diane Janes and his brother in law Keith (Robin) Janes and many nieces and nephews, god daughters, extended family including his special cousin Gina Connors and countless friends and colleagues. Rick left Newfoundland as a young man on his way to adventure. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy in 1979 and over 23 years he sailed on numerous ships and served on many tours of duty. In 1987 he met the love of his life, Sharon and they raised two beautiful daughters in Halifax. Rick retired from the Forces in 2002. He took a year off with his daughters and then began working with the Inn on the Lake as a night auditor. In 2006 he began working with Provincial Aerospace Limited first as a sensor operator and later as member of the training division. Rick’s work took him around the world, to the Middle East and the Caribbean and back to the province he loved, Newfoundland. One of his highlights was to be assigned tasks that took him to the BC Coast during the Vancouver Olympic Games in 2010. Rick was a longtime member of the Royal Canadian Legion and his weekly dart leagues. He was known for his love of hunting and fishing, and looked forward to every spring to begin his garden. Rick loved many things in his life. His girls, his garden, his reading, his music and his coffee but most of all he loved his hockey team! GO HABS GO!!! Rick will rest at the J. Albert Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., 149 Herring Cove Road, Halifax (477-5601), where visitation will be on Tuesday, June 4 from
2-4 & 6-8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 5 at 10 AM in St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church, Fr. Frank Pellerin as celebrant. This will be followed by a color guard of the Royal Canadian Legion, and a tea provided by the RCL Ladies Auxiliary at Legion Branch #152, 7 Sussex Street, Halifax. The Family would like to thank the following for all of their support during this difficult time: Rick and Sharon, Hillary and Richelle’s friends and neighbours, (while too numerous to list), know that you hold a special place in all of their hearts! Rick’s work Provincial Aerospace, Ltd (PAL) and his co-workers, especially Brad, who did everything they could to support their friend and teammate. You have no idea how much it meant to us to have you at our side. Rick was a lucky man to have been part of your team. To the nurses, doctors and support staff at QE11 CCU, Halifax, we are incredibly grateful for your comfort and care of Rick and of us. To all his buddies from the Navy and the Legion, and friends far and wide, thank you for all of your kind thoughts and prayers.
